Does that refer to futures contracts? If so, when do they trade? — Obviously before the stock market opens. Rights?

The S&P futures usually indicate the short-term (intraday) direction of the market. It frequently doesn’t have any bearing on the way the market will close, because of the multitude of news that will be posted throughout the day.

It does refer to futures contracts that may mor may not be executed.
